Senate
The membership, functions and operations of the Senate are governed
by the following ordinances, which came into effect on 1 August 2007.

Membership of Senate 2012-2013
The membership of Senate is available on the
University Calendar website.

Working Party on the Review of the Effectiveness of Senate
During the 2012-13 academic year, the Working Party has
undertaken a piece of work to consider the functions of Senate
sub-committees and propose a new sub-committee structure. At its
meeting on 24 April 2013, Senate considered an interim report from
the Working Party, which set out the work to date in considering and
preparing recommendations for a revised structure and a timeline and
structure for a University-wide consultation process to take place
during the summer term. The final recommendations on the revised
sub-committee structure will be presented to Senate for
consideration and approval in June 2013 to enable the new
arrangements to come into effect on 1 August 2013.
The draft proposals, as considered by Senate in April and more
information about the structure of the consultation process, are set
out in a consultation document, which can be accessed
here using your University username and password. Please send
any comments by e-mail to: senate@essex.ac.uk, so they may be
collated for consideration by the Working Party. The deadline for
responses is 5pm, Friday 24 May 2013.

Summary of
Academic Policy Decisions. This includes policy decisions
taken by Academic Board, the Quality
Assurance and Enhancement Committee and the Senate* in the relevant term. The
Summary is prepared principally for the benefit of Heads of
Departments and relevant Centre Directors and for Departmental
Administrators. It is divided into two sections: items for action by
department and centres and items for information.
