Which optional modules can I take?
On some courses, second-year students are permitted to take an
outside option. You can find out whether you are allowed to take an
outside option by looking at your course structure which is available:
Students taking courses in Humanities and Comparative Studies which permit an outside option may choose their option from
the Departments of Art History, History, Literature, Film, and Theatre
Studies, Language and Linguistics, Philosophy, and Sociology.
Students taking courses in Social Sciences which permit
an outside option may choose their option from the Departments of
Economics, Government, Language
and Linguistics, Mathematical Sciences, Philosophy,
Psychoanalytic
Studies, Sociology
and the Essex Business School.
Students on single honours courses in Law can request special
permission to replace one Law option with an outside option. If you
are interested in doing this, you should contact the Director of
Undergraduate Studies in the School of Law.
