Accu-Type Touch Typing Tutor

The University of Essex has purchased a site licence for Accu-Type (version 4), which is a structured and responsive teacher of touch-typing skills. Accu-Type allows you to learn to touch-type or test existing typing skills.

Open Access Computing Laboratories
To run Accu-Type from the open access computing labs on campus, click the start button on the toolbar, then select Programs, Applications, Accutype 4 - typing tutor. Follow the instructions to use the package.

Other PCs on campus
As we have a site licence for the campus, it is also available for anyone to use from their own networked machines as well.

If you would like to set this up on your office PC, right click on your desktop, choose new then shortcut and paste in \\sernt9\accutype$\accutype.exe then click next, and finish. You should have the Accutype icon on your desktop. Click on it to run the program and then follow the instructions.

Using the package
The first time you use Accutype, you will be asked for a login name, then your first name and last name. When you have entered these you can go on to try the exercises available. When you leave Accutype, it will remember your progress, so use the same login name next time and it will pick up where you left it.

Help
Some help is available from the menu under 'Help'. If the package does not seem to work properly, then report the fault to the helpdesk using the fault report form for the open access PC laboratories at http://www2.essex.ac.uk/cs/help/faults/lab_fault_report.asp
