OpenVPN can be used to access specific resources from the internal University of Essex network from offsite. The service is primarily intended for the use of staff members, but may be extended to postgraduate students if their department confirms the need. OpenVPN can currently allow access to :-
In order to run OpenVPN, you need to do the following first
Inform ISS, by email to desk@essex.ac.uk, of your requirements so that the correct configuration can be set up at our end. Without having set this up previously, OpenVPN will not work for you. Your email should specify the resources to which you wish to have remote access (if you wish access to your desktop PC, please specify the S-number; if to a network share, specify the host machine and share name).

Configure your office desktop PC (only required for remote access to your office desktop PC) (see Pre-requisites on home office desktop PC).
Install and Configure the OpenVPN software on your home/remote PC by following the appropriate instructions below.
