ISS provides two supported methods of reading email, Outlook (2010, 2007 or 2003) in Corporate Mode, and Outlook Web Access (OWA). You may, of course, use other mail readers should you wish; but ISS cannot guarantee that these will work, and may not be able to provide assistance in dealing with problems.
This webpage shows the configuration necessary to configure your email in all the supported methods along with a number of other options for Windows, Mac, Linux, mobiles and hand-held devices.

Good news! Work is underway to upgrade and migrate all student e-mail accounts to Microsoft Office 365. All student mailboxes will be automatically upgraded in Autumn, you do not need to do anything.
If you use Outlook Web Access (http://email.essex.ac.uk), the transition should be seamless and you will notice only some slight changes in the interface. You will access your account in the same way, though you will see an additional login prompt. If you are using another method of reading your e-mail (eg Outlook, Thunderbird, iPhone, Andriod etc) you may need to refer to the FAQ pages to re-configure your client following the migration, or click the link below:
University staff and postgraduate research students should continue to use the configuration guides listed below.
