![]()
You can use a web browser to check the balance of your printing account by either:
- logging into the 'MyLife' section of the MyEssex Portal; or
- by viewing your printer account via this secure web page.
Essex users can purchase printing credit on-line with a credit or debit card using secure web pages. This is a 24-hour available system, and allows users to purchase print credit in all whole-pound values between £2 and £20. Purchasing print credit in this method will automatically update your printing account with the amount purchased.
NEW! From September 2005: Buy printing credit on-line and get 5%
extra, FREE!
For example, buy printing credit to the value of £5.00 and your printing
account will be credited with £5.25, (that's 5 extra pages for free when you
print to a Computing Service lab postscript printer).

Various commands are available to allow users of Computing Service printers to obtain information about their current account status and to credit their accounts using vouchers bought from the Help Desk or Student Union shop. The correct command to use depends upon the the type of computer: instructions for NT users, instructions for UNIX users.
On NT workstations, select the Printer Accounting icon in the Accessories program group. This brings up a window which looks like this:

This program is also used to add printer credit to your account from a voucher you have bought. There are a number of buttons to click on in the printer accounting program: Balance shows how much credit is left in your printer account. History shows what you have previously printed. Voucher enables you to add new printer credit to you account - to do this follow the on screen instructions that are presented to you after clicking on the button. Finally, the Quit button allows you to exit the program.
The commands to manipulate your printer account on these machines are command line based. (Note that on the Lab B PCs you will have to enter these commands from the DOS prompt, i.e when Windows is not running.)
acusage allows you to determine the current balance of your account, e.g.
serdlm20-fred-12-% acusage fred : 4.90 in credit : printing enabled.
Unless your account is in credit, you will not be able to print. If you are not in credit, you should increase your account balance by purchasing one or more printing vouchers from the Help Desk or from the Student Union shop on square 3.
aclist allows you to list all the transactions that have occurred for your account, e.g.
