Help Desk printers

The printers located in the HelpDesk should be accessed via the following queue names:

Printing From Different Operating Systems

PC running Windows 95 or Windows NT 4 workstation/server

To use any of these printers with your machine, use the following instructions:

• Double-click on the My Computer icon on the top left hand corner of the desktop screen.

• When the My Computer window appears, double-click on the icon named Printers.

• In the Printers window, double-click on the Add Printer icon. This will cause the Add Printer wizard to appear.

• In the first part of the wizard, ensure the Network printer server radio button is selected, then click on the Next button.

• When the Connect to Printer part of the wizard appears, enter the hostname and printername of the printer you want to print to into the Printer field. For example, to print to the laser printer in lab A, enter the following into this field:

\\serpsa\serpsa

• If you don't have a suitable printer driver installed on your machine, and one could not be found in the printer, then you will be prompted to install a suitable printer driver by a warning such as the one below:

• After a few seconds, the Add Printer Wizard window will appear. Select the appropriate driver for the printer from the list displayed. Note that you will probably require your Windows CD-ROM in order to install a new printer driver. Drivers required by various printers:

• After you have done this you will be given the option of whether you want the newly set up printer to act as your default printer.

• Don't forget that all use of Computing Service printers is charged for - current charges are listed on this page.

Unix

Example:

lpr  -Pserascii  filename
	lpr  -Pserps     filename.ps

PC DOS using PCnfs

Example:

net use LPT1: serps:serps

PC running Windows for work groups

Example:

Enter print manager Select connect network printer.
	In the printer section select LPT1: LPT2: or LPT3:
	In the path type \\hostname\printername
	
	eg. \\serps\serps
