Configuring your wireless for eduroam access on Windows 7

 

This guide assumes that you are using the built-in wireless networking configuration. If using your wireless network card providers utility, the information below can be used as a guide.

 

Right-click on the wireless networks icon in the bottom right of the screen and select 'Network and Sharing Center'.

Select 'Manage Wireless network'.

?

 

Click the 'Add' button

?

 

In the 'Manually connect to a wireless network' dialog, select 'Manually create a network profile'

?

 

Ensure that all the settings match those given below.

Select 'Change connection settings'

?

 

In the 'eduroam Wireless Network properties' dialog box, ensure that the 'Connection' tab settings match those below

Select the 'Security' tab and ensure that the settings match those below. Click on 'Settings' to bring up the 'Protected EAP Properties' dialog box.

In the 'Protected EAP Properties' dialog box, ensure that the settings are as below and click on the 'Configure...' button.

?

 

In the 'EAP MSCHAPv2 dialog box, uncheck 'Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).'.

Click OK twice to return to the Security Tab, Click on Advanced Settings. Ensure the settings are as below.

Click OK

Click Close to return back to "Manage Wireless Networks" windows. Left Click on the Wireless Icon on the right hand corner of the Taskbar and click Connect

In the 'Enter Credentials dialog box, provide your University email address consisting of your login name and '@essex.ac.uk' and your password. If coming from another University participating in eduroam, enter your home institutions details. Click OK.

you should now be connected.
