What's New!

Opening of Multi-Decked Car Park

The new multi-decked car park on the south side of our Colchester Campus, providing 397 spaces, is now open. Parking is for staff (with registered vehicles) and visitors only.

In order to improve car parking for students, two parking bays along Valley Road – totalling some 170 spaces – will be reserved for student parking only. This area is on the first turning on the left after the Astroturf pitch.

Car parking – new payment system in multi-decked car park starts Monday 29 April 2013

An automatic number plate recognition scheme is being introduced in the new multi-decked car park at our Colchester Campus on Monday 29 April – with the main change being that as a member of staff (or a visitor) you will need to pay on return to your vehicle. The new payment system is easy to use – directions are as follows, which are also located by the pay machines:

  • When you drive into the new car park, a camera will read your car’s number plate (and only this area of your car)
  • The system will know what permit you have, so you will be charged the appropriate amount
  • Park as usual, lock and leave your car
  • When you return to your car, you will need to pay using one of the two new machines, these are located in the stairwells
  • Type in your registration number – the system will recognise your number plate and charge the appropriate fee
  • Pay the amount required amount in coins, notes or using a debit card
  • If you are a season ticket holder you can just drive in, park and drive out when you leave – there is no need to go to the payment machine

For further information please read the car parking updates webpage

Staff encouraged to park on the south side of campus

In order to make parking easier for all, we are strongly advising any staff who do not need to park on the north side of campus to please park on the south side using the new multi-decked car park, as you will be able to find a space much more easily.

If you normally park on the north side of campus, Capon Road car park is reserved for the contractors working on the site for the building to house EBS and The Meadows only. Also, now that the new multi-decked car park is open, all temporary car parking areas that have been open since October 2012 are now closed. This means there are no longer any free parking areas so please ensure you display a valid permit and/or ticket when using all University car parks from now on.

For further information please go to the Campus Update webpage.
