International Students

The University of Essex is a multicultural institution and we recognise that living and studying in the UK may be very different from your own country, it may take you a while to settle in. Essex has a wide range of support covering academic and personal issues, friendly and professional staff will be able to guide, advise and assist you during your stay.

Student Support staff provide advice, guidance and information on a full range of issues including immigration. Advice is confidential, however, there are circumstances when we are required to disclose information to the Registry or the UK Border Agency, you will be informed if this is the case.

UK Immigration - Information, Guidance and Advice

The University of Essex website contains information and guidance for currently registered international students and applicants regarding the UK immigration rules and requirements. So, if you need to apply for a visa to come and study at the University of Essex or already have a visa and want to know more about your status and conditions including what happens if you change your plans, please read the relevant information in our immigration pages.

Both Student Support and the Students' Union Advice Centre offer immigration advice to University of Essex students. Which service you contact will depend on the nature of your enquiry.  We recommend you read the immigration information on our website before contacting the relevant service.

Living and Working in the UK - International Students

In addition to the immigration pages, you will also find a wide range of useful information in the other areas of our website. The University has an online guide to the support services available at each campus.
