Christmas opening times for

The Library will close at 4.30pm on Friday 21
December and will reopen at 9am on Wednesday 2 January. Please
note that the Large Reading Room will remain open from 9am
to 5pm every day of the vacation.

Normal opening hours during the vacation (10am
to 6pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and

The following University of Essex catering outlets
will close at normal time on Friday 21 December 2012 and will
re-open as usual on Wednesday 2 January 2013:
Canteen
Refresh
Zest
Fusion
Blues Cafe
Happy Days Diner
Wrapid and the
Lakeside Theatre Cafe are only open during term time and will
therefore close on Friday 14 December 2012 at normal time and will
reopen as usual on Monday 14 January 2013.
The
Bakery will be closed on 20 December and from 24 December to 1
January inclusive. Other days the hours are 8am to 3pm.
The
Students' Union Bar serves food and will be open 12pm to 11pm
during the vacation, except 22 December to 1 January when they will
be closed.
Frangos
will close
at 3pm on 19 December and will reopen as usual on 2 January.
Wivenhoe House Hotel is offering a special menu for
international students from 21 December to 31 December. Reservations
and enquiries can be made by phoning 01206 863666 or by e-mailing
info (add @wivenhoehouse.co.uk to create the full email address).
Please bring your registration card with you to claim the offer.

In addition, Wivenhoe House is

students over the University closed period from 21 December. Please
bring your registration card with you.
Wivenhoe House Hotel is also
hosting the
International students' Christmas party.
Sub Zero,
Top Bar and Level 2 will be closed
between 19 December and 6 January.
The
Students’ Union Bar will be closed on 22 December and will
reopen on 2 January. Vacation opening hours are 12pm to 11pm.
During the period 4pm Friday 21 December
until 8am
Wednesday 2 January labs C, D, E, G and I
will be open 24 hours.
The
Orangery will be open on request to the Information
Centre
between the hours of 9am to 10pm each day.
The Limehouse and all other ISS labs will be closed.
This is with the exception of the period 7pm 31 December until 7am
January 1 when all ISS labs, the Orangery and the Limehouse will be
closed.
If the computer labs remain unused for a period of time, a Patrol
Officer will close them. If you find them closed, go to the
Information Centre on square 3 where a
Patrol Officer can arrange for a lab to be reopened.

The Copy Centre will close at 4.30pm
on Friday 21 December and will
re-open at 9am on
2 January
2013. For the rest of the vacation period
(17
December to 14 January) the
Copy Centre will open at the following times:
Mon - Thurs 9am - 1pm & 2pm - 4.45pm
Fri 9am - 1pm & 2pm - 4.30pm
The Counselling Service will close at normal time on
Friday 21 December 2012 and will reopen as usual on Monday 7 January
2013.
The
Day Nursery will close at 6pm on 21 December and reopen at 8am
on 2 January.
In the event of a genuine emergency on the Colchester campus,
telephone extension 2222 (please
dial 224 2222 (from a Studentcom
room phone).
Internal calls only.
Patrol Officers in the Information Centre, Colchester Campus will be
available throughout the Christmas vacation, you can contact them by
telephoning extension 2125 (please
dial 224 2125 (from a Studentcom room phone) or 01206 872125 (from a
mobile).
For emergencies while off-campus you
should contact the emergency services (Police, Ambulance, Fire)
direct by dialling 999.
Exams Office (also
Timetabling and Graduation Office)
These offices will be closing at normal time on Friday 21
December and reopening on Wednesday 2 January.
The launderettes on campus are open 24 hours
and will not close - if you find the doors locked please contact the
Information Centre on Square 3.
The MFCC will be available for students to use during the time when
the rest of the University is closed. If you want to make use of the
Chaplaincy during this time and you find it locked you will need to
go to the Information Centre and the Patrol Officers will arrange
for the facility to be opened for you to use.

Friends International will be running some off-campus
events over the vacation. To find out more please

Registry will be open from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 3.30pm on 17
to 21 December and 2 to 11 January. It will be closed from 24
December to 1 January. Normal opening hours resume on 14 January.
Outside of Registry opening hours, some
documentation can be
ordered online.
The RSN operates a reduced service within University accommodation
throughout the vacation, including the closed period. If you would
like to contact the RSN during the vacation please call the generic
direct line numbers which should be displayed on a poster in your
kitchen:

If you are unable to locate an Assistant Area

The
Burrow will close at normal time on Friday 14 December 2012 and
will reopen as normal again on Monday 14 January 2013.
The
Campus Shop will be closed from 22 December to 1 January.
Everything Essex will be closed from 22 December to 1 January.
Go-Go Global will be open 12pm to 4pm except 20 December and
from 23 December to 2 January, 5 to 6 and 12 to 13 January when it
will be closed.
StudentLets will be open as usual from 17 to 19 December and on
the morning of 21 December and closed on 20 December and from 24
December to 1 January.
Unique hairdressers will be closed from 24 December to 2
January.
Student Support will be closed from 24 December to 1 January.
Normal vacation hours will resume on 2 January and are 10am to 12pm
for drop-in advising service. If you wish to contact a member of
Student Support during opening hours you can telephone 01206 872366,
e-mail sso (non-Essex users add @essex.ac.uk to complete the e-mail
address) or call in to the office 4N.6.2.
The Students’ Union main
reception will close on 21
December and reopens at 9am on January 2.
The
Students’ Union Advice Centre will close on Tuesday 18 December
at 4pm and reopen on Tuesday 3 January at 10am. During the vacation
period (14 December 2012 – 14 January 2013) the Advice Centre will
be open from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Normal opening
hours will resume from Monday 14 January 2013.

The
Health Centre will
be opening as normal (Monday to Friday 9am-12.30pm and
1.30pm-4.30pm) with the following exceptions:
Closed on
25 and 26 December and 1 January

Students can also visit the
Walk-in-Centre in the Primary Care Centre, Turner Road,

The Sports Centre will
be closed from
Monday 24 December
2012 to Tuesday 1 January 2013 inclusive. Usual
hours will resume on Wednesday
2 January 2013.
You can still make use of the jogging routes, orientation
courses, frisbee courses and trim trail over the vacation.
