The human heart is the focus of an international art-science project
which will be coming to the University at the end of this month.
Life Nexus is an ongoing project by Argentine Artist Jorge Orta. The
project began in 1996 and to date more than 1000 hearts have been made by
participants in the project across the world.
The project focuses on the human heart at both a literal and
metaphorical level: as a human organ - raising public awareness of
scientific research and issues such as organ transplantation; as a
metaphor - 'have a heart', in relation to empathy and feelings.
The University Gallery will be hosting two workshops where participants
can design and make their own papier-mache heart on Friday 31 August and
Monday 3 September from 10.30am until 3.30pm. All elements of the workshop
is free. To book a place e-mail infor@1stsite.co.uk
or phone 01206 577067.
The workshops will be followed by an exhibition in October which
will display the papier-mache hearts at the University Gallery.
